Such an insightful way to look deep within those we know who are not happy and to help understand the roots of this unhappiness relative to a baby or child having undeveloped happiness wiring and how shocking it is to acknowledge that addictive behaviour can be compared to taking drugs in order to find a cure for their unhappiness. I am so sad for all the innocent children that remain such unhappy soles through really no fault of their own and at a time they have no memory of this treatment. No wonder narcissism is such a difficult thing to handle and acknowledge. Thank you Kim for sending this to me, I feel more empathy and in a way a greater appreciation to my parents. Plus a higher awareness of the responsibility of being a parent.

Bullseye!! I genuinely wish this video to be required in any and all parenting classes, pre-marital education, addiction programs, you name it(to include the continued education programs for our counselors and psychologist). The world needs to see this.

Thanx for sharing this Kim & Steve.

It’s very sad when we realize the really reason that drives us to acts of compulsion such as drug addictions. Most of us think that our own compulsions are less severe and use this as an excuse to fill the void within us. In the end, we are all the same. I have found much solace in a program designed by the Art of Living Foundation to over come these compulsions and heal oneself. It is not a religion, but uses the realm of spirituality through yogic breath breathing practice to over come baggage that keeps us from moving forward in life.

There’s a good book I read years ago and it is called ‘The Power is Within You’ it’s fantastic but can’t recall the Author. You have the power to achieve whatever it is you want from your life. YOU have the power. YOU control your own self!

This should be shown to every person arrested for D.W.I., domestic violence and child abuse and even animal abuse.
Anyone who hurts others is hurting inside and does not love themselves. If we had more therapy offered for people who are hurting there would be less people in prison and less people losing their jobs from drug addiction. It would be a much better world for the children and adults.

What wonderful information all within 10 minutes.
I felt sad for what is happening to our children.
I believed a lie most of my life, I am now following Kim and Steve’s book to show my severe Personality Dissorder husband the new woman. I am sadened that this man doesn’t know the healing power of our Risen Savior Jesus Christ, but give honor to his softened heart.

Profound! The messages in this video speak of what has taken me 54 years to realize. It is the power within and the “light” of oneself that is the true prize. Wealth, power over others and agressiveness are not the true end goals.

Wow this is awesome it made me cry too because I felt like he was talking about me at times. I am an alcoholic struggling to heal and find a way to deal with my partners NPD at the same time.
He was abanded as a child and I was physically and mentally abused my entire childhood and abandonded by my father. I have tried counseling and it has helped a lot but I know that I am still carrying that pain of not feeling good enough or wanted as a little girl with me which I now understand is why I became addicted. The hard part for me is to heal and be able to change those deep seated feelings and replace them with love. This video has only reassured me of the importance to keep trying, learning and understanding. Thank you soooo much Kim for sharing this with us.

The best things in life are free and passing on this to the next generation IMO is above all else.
Gabor cuts though much human denial and bravely shares his own responsibility to the future. Rare these days.
Kim,Steve and suppernanney hooking up with a healing, parenting program that must be passed would go far in eliminated much darkness in this world. Good for everyone…

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Thanks so much for calling my attention to this! I have a couple of his books (one on the development of illness and its connection to our personalities, and another on staying connected to our kids). He is wonderful and wise.

Thank you Kim for having the insight to share and apply what Gabor Mate is talking about to your readers. My first reaction was to think “oh he is talking about other people…” and wondered why you thought this video was important to watch. Then it sunk in. Replace “there are people addicted to power” with “your boyfriend is addicted to power”. Yikes! I almost missed the learning opportunity. He is addicted to having power over me!

Hi Thanks Sandra, Yes and I would also say the codependents addiction to love and the feeling that their happiness comes from something outside themselves (their partner). I was also very moved by the message at the end which says we can not look to people in power to solve the problems we face but we need to find the light within us. That is the most perfect allegory for the message we try and teach here.

This video is lovely and so profound. He’s got it; hits the nail on the head, so to speak. Everything he has to say is truth. It is wisdom, He gets to the heart of the matter about the whole constuct of power, powerlessness and the need to find this love/ peace, self love within by using addictive substances of any sort.
His understanding about those who are addicted to power, like Hitler, etc. is so observant, little people who feel little inside themselves and abuse others to find thier own strength in such a contorted way. I especially like his example of the Jewish babies crying when picking up on their mother’s fears, stressors and depression. I haven’t been aware of this before, though at some point I know I’ve heard this but he brings this out so clearly as well as abused children lacking dopamine and it’s an actual brain lacking what one needs in order to feel self love and acceptance and belonging. This is very educational and makes me aware of my own growing up years when I too was extremely abused and not accepted but rejected. This is a powerful teaching and I’m so glad you shared this. Masters like Jesus and Budda have their own light within and know they are God’s expression and have no need to control others but share and heal in their own gentle way and teach others about their own light. This is a brilliant video and I’m so glad you and Kim and Steve are sharing this. Ronda Dee

I guess come the day we really see how we have been terrorised by our own fears, then we will really see each other as we are and we wont be afraid any more x

    Excellent observations.

For myself, my own healing began in a big way when I realized who I was in Jesus Christ once I was born again.

I am accepted and loved by one who will never leave me or let me down–one who takes the utmost care of me in every way.

There is no greater security. I’m now free to love myself and others and embrace life!
